Thirst Quenching Hydra-Milk Recipe
Fresh aloe, coconut water and raw milk make the perfect drink for hydration!

If you’ve ever been to a beach in Mexico, I’ll guess you’ve seen if not drank from a whole coconut. And it’s the most refreshing thing ever! Honestly, the few times that I’ve been to Mexico, my favorite part has always been drinking the water straight from a fresh coconut dangling from a coconut tree. There’s this fresh, lightness and undeniable hydration that coconut water embodies. Beach days in Mexico are past me, and who knows when I’ll be back. But today in my kitchen, I created a drink that’s not only reminiscent coconuts in Mexico, but creamy, light and frothy!
Creating drink elixirs is a natural tendency of mine. I just love concocting drinks with an intention in mind. This drink is intended for freshness & hydration.
About Aloe,
While I was doing my weekly co-op shopping haul, my attention was lured over to these big pieces of aloe leaves stacked up in a basket in the produce section. I’m a firm believer in intuitive eating, where I allow my senses and body ques to guide my food purchases. Not sure what I’d do with the aloe leaf, I added it to the shopping cart and carried on.
Aloe is from the succulent plant species and grows in tropical climates.

The gel or “meat” within the aloe plant can be scraped out and eaten raw. When you peel back the external leaf layer, you’ll be presented a clear, somewhat gooey yet firm substance.
Fresh aloe gel contains a plethora of health benefits too! From antioxidants, which I love to consume to protect myself from free radicals and oxidative stress. And fresh aloe has properties to help with digestion, blood sugar regulation, inflammation and…. hydration!
The recipe is really quite simple. The only “lengthy” part of this process is preparing the aloe. You’re simply removing the skin and pulling out the meat/gel.
My recipe uses fresh raw milk. However, when the milk cow is dry and not producing all of her delicious milk, I will purchase low temp pasteurized milk, which I can find in most natural grocery stores or the co-op. Vat Pasteurized milk is also a favorite of mine!

Recipe
60 grams fresh aloe meat
3/4 C. coconut water (bonus points if you use a fresh coconut)
1/2 C. raw milk, or low temp pasteurized milk
ice cubes for serving
Method
Wash the outside of the aloe leaf to rid any waxy film. Cut off a hunk from the plant (mine weighed 100 grams). Slice away the skin so you’re left with only the meat/gel.
Add the aloe, coconut water and milk to a high speed blender and blend for 40-60 seconds. The liquid will turn frothy!
Pour over a glass of ice and enjoy!

I made this drink first thing in the morning, as that’s the time of day that I’m THRISTY and craving a quenching drink.
